Slayer je americká thrash metalová hudební skupina působící od počátku 80. let. Byla založena Kerry Kingem, který posléze nalezl na post baskytaristy Toma Arayu (s kterým tvoří jednu z nejproduktivnějších autorských dvojic na metalové scéně) a na místo druhého kytaristy našel Jeffa Hannemana (zabývajícího se tehdy punkem, viz D.R.I. apod.). Bubeníkem se stal Dave Lombardo. Kapela se během chvíle stala velmi populární v undergroundové scéně a spolu s kapelami jako Metallica, Anthrax a Megadeth založila thrash metalovou scénu.
